No More Polls

So, last month we put up a pretty important poll that was basically asking you loyal reading to suggest more content for us to post. And guess what? No one voted... not in the whole month. So because of that, we've decided for now to no longer have monthly polls. In fact, no polls in general.

If you want the feature back, you know where to contact us. I'd hope.

(Hint: It says 'Contact Us' on the right side navigation...)

Poll #18 Results

Last month's poll was admittedly put together really quickly, and I'm sorry for that... but here's the results:

Which do you prefer?

Digital copies: 22%

Hard copies: 55%

Depends on the media: 22%

Glad to know I'm not the only one who still like having a physical product; especially in an age where products like the iPod touch, PSPgo, amongst others can be released without any physical media slot and still be considered a gaming system.

Be sure to vote in this month's poll, it's an important one!

Poll #17 Results

Here's the result for July's poll of the month...

How do you prefer to get your news?

Internet - 92%
Television - 0%
Print - 7%
Radio - 0%
Brainwaves 0%

Figures, I mean, look where you are right now! But I was really hoping someone could tell me where to get brainwave transmissions...

This month's poll is up!

Poll #16 Results

June was a rough month, the first half of the month was loaded with all of E3, which left the monthly poll as a second thought. Because of that, I madea filler poll to finish off the month... and yeah, here's what we got:

Do you like taking polls?

Yes - 25%

No - 0%

Whatever - 75%

Pretty much... I mean there's nothing else to analyze here.

This months poll should be up about now..

Poll #15 Results

It's that time again! In more ways than one, as yes, it's poll result time; but exactly one year ago we conducted a similar poll for the movies of last year, which you can check out here.

What big summer films are you most excited to see?

Star Trek (57%)
Up (42%)
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (42%)
Terminator Salvation (26%)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (26%)
Angels & Demons (10%)
Other (10%)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (5%)
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (0%)

Last year, the winner was unsurprisingly, The Dark Knight, with WALL-E right up behind it, and Indiana Jones and Iron Man just behind them. Obviously TDK and WALL-E went on to be huge critical successes (Oscars even), with Iron Man surprising people everywhere, and Dr. Jones handing out some mixed reactions. But what does this poll say about this summer's films?

First off, in similar status to Iron Man, Star Trek surprised everyone by being enjoyable despite whatever past connections (or not connections at all) people had with the franchise, and you can check out my review here. Pixar once again takes second place with Up, and I've yet to see that, but hope to sometime this week. And.. yeah, the rest is up to you to analyze, poor G.I. Joe got no love though.

Next poll coming eventually.

Poll #14 Results

This month's poll was a little more personal than usual, personal in the fact that we asked how often you visit us. Sure, the ratio of visitors to voters was way off, thanks a lot, but it still gave us a little bit of insight as to who we are writing for.

How often do you visit VFH?

Daily - 12%
A few times a week - 31%
A few times a month - 6%
Rarely - 12%
This is my first visit - 37%

Pretty interesting to say the least, in that on average, we have about the same amount of new visitors as we do regularly returning readers. So, the least I can say is thank you for visiting, and thank you for coming back!

May's poll is up! It should feel familiar...

Poll #13 Results

The poll for March was a pretty important one, as it basically affects the future of when we can review different products. What did you, the readers, decide on?

Should there be a time limit as to when products can be reviewed?

Always - 5%
Never - 42%
Only on games - 5%
Only on movies, etc - 0%
Only on music - 0%
Only on books - 0%
Depends (Tell us) - 47%

Well then, looks like the race between "Depends" and "Never" was really close, but what this does mean now is that there virtually is not limit to when products can be reviewed. However, with some discussion, we agreed that while there is no limit, so things should have a bar, for example Movies, to be reviewed, must still be in theaters... for relevancy.

And basically, anything major, yet over a year old is ineligible for review. That is, unless it falls into our Hidden Gems category, meaning its old, but you may not have known about it to begin with so in a sense it's still relevant.

Poll #12 Results

February's poll was a subject more or less new to VFH, books. We asked:

Do you read books?

Yes - 77%
No - 11%
Just comics - 0%
What are books? - 11%

Well, that's a good thing at least, because now if we review/cover reading materials, we won't feel like nobody's looking.

New poll is up. This one's really important to us, because it's going to basically say what content can be posted and when. Currently, we have a month or so time limit as to when titles can be reviewed. However, there's been some complaints that this is unfair to certain media, so this month's poll may change all that. So do us a favor and please vote.

Poll #11 Results

Our first poll for 2009 asked you about New Years resolutions, here's what you said:

I don't make them - 50%
I try my best - 30%
Make and keep - 10%
Make and break - 10%

Hmm, so much for that right? Interesting that 'Make and keep' tied with 'Make and break'.

This month's poll is now ready for your votes

Poll #10 Results

Ok ... I mean it this time, THIS is the last post of 2008.

The question was "How do you buy your music?" you answered:

Both physically and digitally: 62%
CD only: 12%
Digital download only: 12%
I don't buy music: 12%
Vinyl: 0%

Well, I can't say I'm baffled. Personally I buy most of what I can on CD, but nowadays there's just some things you can't find on CD when your only source of music is the local Best Buy; and that's where iTunes comes in. But some people can't stand not having the CD or some people don't find need for a physical product so it's interesting to see that both "only" categories tied.

Then there's "I don't buy music" which was intended for those that literally don't buy music, and just use the radio... not "I don't buy music" but referring to stealing it via torrents, etc. And lastly, the vinyl option; I know some people out there are purists, and that's all they buy, so that option was for you, way to care. Would you rather I put an Eight Track option?

New year's poll is up

Poll #9 Results

As December comes, another poll goes, here are the results for November's reader intrusive poll:

Where do you Social Network?

Facebook - 66%
MySpace - 55%
YouTube - 33%
deviantART - 33%
Flickr - 11%
I Don't - 11%
Other - 0%

So I guess reports are true, and Facebook has taken over MySpace's reign as most popular social networking site. However from my point of view, we have a much bigger audience on MySpace than we do on Facebook, so you be the judge. As for YouTube tieing with deviantART ... well I suppose not ever uses YouTube as a social network as much as they do just use it to watch random videos. And deviantART I put on the list for good measure, never thought it'd match YouTube though. Then there's poor Flickr, I never found it very socialable to begin with, but I know many folks use it. Let's not forgot those of you that don't social network, to each their own I guess. I was against the whole networking thing myself .. but now look at me (yikes!). And lastly, Other, I guess there is nothing? I've been thinking about getting a Twitter account for VFH, as it looks to be the next big thing, but I haven't the slughtest clue in how it works.

Next poll should be up!

Poll #8 Results

Happy Halloween! Good thing the poll is completely unrelated.... on to the results! We basically asked this poll just to get an idea of channels that people watched. While I understand it's not specific, what people watch on satellite TV will obviously differ from standard cable or what you watch online. So yeah, our recent coverage of TV shows also has to deal with this, so it's all relevant.

What type of TV service do you have?

Digital Cable - 50%
Cable - 20%
Satellite - 10%
I use my computer - 10%
None - 10%
Antenna - 0%
Other - 0%

Digital cable's a good answer, it's good to know that a bulk of our readers have over 300 channels, this way almost any TV coverage becomes relevant. It's also great to see that no one uses an antenna still, and with antenna service dropping in February 2009, you better not still have one. As for "other" I just put that in for good measure, I have no idea what other options their actually are...

Viewbear wins!

It's settled folks, Viewbear defeated Hewwosaur in a whopping, 80%-20% battle! So, View From Heaven readers, say "Hewwo" er... "Hello!" to your new (and hopefully final) mascot, Viewbear!

Viewbear has now become our face on both MySpace and Facebook; so if you come across a winged-bear, bearing our logo, you know who sent him! We will plan to use Viewbear much more than we did Hewwosaur. Why? He's just more versitle. Hewwosaur, having Spore roots, became less and less attachable to other things. But with our newfound, completely original, winged hero, the possibilites are endless. And don't fret, Hewwo-fans, Viewbear is kind enough to carry around a comic book of the fallen hero.

Hewwosaur: 2008-2008
"We hardly knew ya."

Stick around, keeping checking View From Heaven. We may be offer something Viewbear downloads in the coming days or so!

Mascot Fight!

Didn't think I'd be bringing this up so soon, but I just couldn't hold back any longer. For one week, a poll will run to decide the final VFH Mascot! Let's have a look at our challengers:

Hewwosaur
The first mascot of VFH, designed in Spore Creature Creator. He, and his rump twin, are just too adorable to say no to.

Viewbear
The newcomer. Seemingly more fitting of the View From Heaven name. Carries not only the VFH logo, but also has a game controller, as well as a comic book of Hewwosaur.

The special poll will be available right above this month's poll. However, unlike this month's poll, the Mascot Vote will only last for a week! Get voting!

Poll #7 Results

After the abysmal turnout for the previous poll, we decided to take a different direction in the poll. Because you, the readers, didn't tell us what content you wanted last time, we're going to try and figure out what you want. And luckily, this time, there was turnout! Anyways, let's see the results:

What is your operating system?

Windows Me or older - 0%
Windows XP - 33%
Windows Vista - 26%
Mac OS X - 40%
Mac OS 9 or older - 0%
Linux - 0%
Other - 0%

The results are about what I assumed they would be, though I didn't expect OS X to top Windows XP. At least I can see that nothing we cover has to cater to the Linux or Unix crowd, and I know that we don't have the make the site available to people with decade old operating systems. Still nice to see there's an almost even balance of Mac and PC users, however, if you combine both XP and Vista, Windows has 59% where Mac still has 40%.

Poll #6 Results

We ended the previous months poll a week early in order to give more time for an important poll, that basically let you, the readers, decide what content we would focus on... and with all that, we had the lowest outcome of votes than any other poll ... what gives? Here's your results:

So, instead of listing off everythinng, I'll just say what was most voted,

What would you like to see more of at VFH?

Most voted was Impressions, Video Content, Tech, and Anime/Manga. I think we delivered on Impressions and Video Content, as for tech and anime ... we do need to work on that...

Next poll should be up shortly

Poll #5 Results

Sorry to late voters, but I've decided to stop this month's post a week early. Reason being a lack of interest; in the last two weeks we had 2 new votes.. yup. Anyways here we go:

What's your favorite controller?

Xbox 360 - 22%
GCN Controller (Wavebird) - 17%
DualShock / Sixaxis - 12%
Wii Remote (& Nunchuck) - 12%
Mouse & keyboard - 7%
SNES - 7%
Wii Classic Controller - 5%
Atari paddle - 3%
Dreamcast (& VMU) - 1%
DDR Pad - 1%
Genesis - 1%
NES - 1%
N64 - 1%
Xbox ( S) - 1%
Other - 1%
Guitar - 0%
Light Gun - 0%
Xbox - 0%

Well, the Xbox wins something around here for once. Still hasn't won my respect though... Anyways, I've heard that a lot of people like the 360's controller; while I don't own a 360 myself, I will say the controller is pretty comfortable, with a primary analog stick it does make it optimal from the system's FPS catalog... as opposed the the original Xbox's massive controller and it's redesigned "S" that find themselves at the end of our list. Gamecube is a little bit surprising, only because everyone ridicules the system, but love that Wavebird; good thing it works with Wii though, best way to play Brawl; if onl they could make it work with the Wii menus. And here comes the strange tie, I'm kind of baffled that the DualShock and Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo tied. But I guess both have their advantages.

Good new PC fans, you get 5th place! But hey, there's no better way to play an RTS or FPS than the keyboard and mouse. But guess what tied that? Super Nintendo's controller, which actually beat out it's evolved younger brother, the Wii Classic controller. Now, here's the biggest surprise.. the Atari Paddle beat out the Dreamcast, NES, N64, Genesis, and Xbox controllers.. how on Earth did that even happen? Guitars and Light Guns get no love though, but I guess thats what happens when you only serve one purpose.. though the DDR pad....

Also, what did you 1% consider to be other? Tell me! New poll is up, and this ones very important!

Poll #4 Results

Which is the best "4(IV)"?

Metal Gear Solid 4 - 56%
Grand Theft Auto IV - 30%
Resident Evil 4 - 23%
Call of Duty 4 - 21%
Mega Man 4 - 17%
Final Fantasy IV - 13%
Devil May Cry 4 - 10%
Dragon Quest IV - 10%
Gran Turismo 4 - 8%
Street Fighter IV - 8%
Virtua Fighter 4 - 8%
Persona 4 - 6%
Soul Calibur IV - 6%
Super Castlevania IV - 4%
Tekken 4 - 4%
Contra 4 - 2%

So, the list actually ended up pretty much how i expected it would. Recent classics like Grand Theft Auto IV, Resident Evil 4, and Call of Duty 4 took top spots as expected. And itt makes sense that unreleased titles like Soul Calibur IV, Street Fighter IV, and Persona 4 were low; though Metal Gear Solid 4 was actually unreleased when the poll started and it still blew the competition away. I will say that I'm surprised that Mega Man 4 ranked so high, yet Super Castlevania IV was so low, an obvious split in the retro state of mind. And poor old Contra 4, no one loves you, just ask sales.

So, a pretty epic poll I must say, what with the 16 options an all. And yeah I know wthere were some 4/IVs that i missed, i.e. Metal Slug 4, Mega Man X4, Quake 4, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Time Crisis 4, Dynasty Warriors 4, Front Mission 4, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Mortal Kombat 4, Mario Party 4, Civilization IV, Myst IV, and many many more that I just don't have the time to name.

Either way I hope you enjoy our next poll!

Poll #3 Results

Which summer films are you excited for?

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - 0%
Speed Racer - 6%
The Incredible Hulk - 20%
Hellboy II - 20%
Iron Man - 46%
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 53%
WALL-E - 60%
The Dark Knight - 73%

An interesting mix, this was the first poll that allowed multiple answers, and I think it was for the better. Let's review the results.

Speed Racer, ahaha, that's really all I can say. Prince Caspian... wow, just wow. I'm actually a little surprised that both The Incredible Hulk and Hellboy II got 20%; mainly because Hulk's not getting too much good hype, and Hellboy has more of a cult following. Iron Man got a decent amount, considering it pretty much beat everyone's expectation in the theaters. Indiana Jones seemed like a no-brainer, it deserves what it got, despite mixed reviews; you can read mine here. WALL-E is another surprise, mainly cause it beat out Indiana Jones; I think it's the first Disney/Pixar film that just doesn't have that childish feel, and it's nice to see. And our winner, The Dark Knight, it deserves it, considering the amount of coverage for it we've had here.

There you have it, this month's poll is a doosey, it's got 16 choices!!!, make sure you all vote!

Poll #2 Results

What's your next purchase?

Playstation 3 - 33%
Xbox 360 - 33%
PSP - 16%
Gaming PC - 16%
Wii - 0%
DS - 0%

interesting... i see 360 and PS3 as the tops for my guess GTAIV, and MGS4 on the PS3 side. PSP... God of War and maybe backtracking? Gaming PC, hell if you can get get it top notch maybe it'll last two yeas haha. As for the Nintendo systems with 0%.. ? My guess is that the people that're voting have them already.

Seriously.. why does no one vote?

New poll is up!
