Blur join LEGO Rock Band

Damnit, why did my favorite band have to go and mix with my favorite childhood toy?!

Announced via Rolling Stone, the Brit-pop pioneers will be appearing in full mini-fig form as part of LEGO Rock Band, joining both Iggy Pop and David Bowie as LEGO-tized musicians for the game.

I have to say, I'm suprised, pleased, and somewhat distraught over the band's inclusion. One, they only reunited this year, and subsequently said they wouldn't be doing anything more. Two, compared to Iggy Pop and David Bowie, they don't exactly have the same impact on the music industry. And then there's the fact that their only song in the game is the over-played and un-Blur like track, "Song 2". Otherwise, I definitely can see the resemblance, more so in Alex James.

LEGO Rock Band releases this November.

The show opened up with a montage of footage for Playstation 2, PS3, PSP and PSN titles; trying to make a point that Sony has the most platforms on the market now, I guess. Funny thing, afterwards Jack Tretton made remarks regarding the press leaks, and thank everyone for still showing up.

The show ended there.

Honestly, wow. I mean, the show was so-so at the start, and $250 for the PSP Go is a real kicker. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker has me pretty pumped, though I was surprised that despite Kojima being there, there was no mention of Metal Gear Solid: Rising on PS3. Was really surprised to hear about Final Fantasy XIV already, but when it turned out to be a new online title I lost interest.

As for the Sony's attemp at motion, it seems like a cross between Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus and Microsoft's "Natal"; but like Natal it's still in an early phase and doesn't seem to be intended for release anytime soon. ModNation Racers looks surprisingly cool, and lastly, The Last Guardian had already won me over with the leaked trailer, this finalized version just makes it so much sweeter.

I think Microsoft won the show for me in terms of technology, but I think Sony really won in terms of game content... as for Nintendo, hey, they did better than last year at least.

LEGO Rock Band ... what?!

If there's two things there is too much of these days, it's music games, and LEGO games. That above screenshot, made large to make sure you're not imagining it, is the proof that things have just gone too far. Harmonix announced today that LEGO Rock Band will be co-developed with TT Games, and will play just like any other Rock Band title, but with a set list aimed at teens and younger players.

My question is, besides "what the @&%?!" is "Why LEGO?" At least games like LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, and LEGO Batman make sense, because there are actual LEGO sets for such franchises, not to mention the constructable aspect of the toys works well for the beat'em up genre. But, here's a case where there's no actual Rock Band LEGOs (I can't see why there would be...) and there's nothing other than possibly gimmicky character construction that would implement the ideal aspect of the product. That's like making a Hot Wheels branded first person shooter, it makes no sense. And really, people of all ages like LEGO, but is the branding alone really going to make someone buy this over say ... Rock Band 2? Or even better, just a Rock Band title aimed at a younger audience, but without the LEGO branding?

Personally, I'd play Rock Band over Guitar Hero any day. And I have to commend Harmonix for making the upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band from the ground up, instead of taking the Activision approach of re-skinning Guitar Hero III and World Tour, and calling them Aerosmith and Metallica respectively. But with a concept like LEGO Rock Band, of all things ... I get the feeling that Rock Band will head down the road of Guitar Hero, with over five spin offs a year, and I'd rather not imagine such a nightmare.

What I really think it comes down to is that companies, and not just gaming now, have run out of creative trust. They're taking the approach of "Why try something new and innovative, when we can just take this and this franchise and promote the hell out of it?" And from a personal stand point, that sucks, because it says I'll never get work if I don't do the job like it's already been done before. I'm all up for a different approach to music games, but if you're just going to slap on an existing franchise, to the same gameplay we've known for years, then you can count me out. I know it may be too early to judge, but I can't say my hopes are high.

If there's any hope for this title, I hope they'll at least let you use your DLC or at least import these tracks into other Rock Band titles. LEGO Rock Band is set for Holiday 2009, and will be releasing on all major platforms (as far as I know)

Sony planning God of War I & II Blu-ray?

Got this screenshot from a survey sent out by Sony regarding a God of War III Collector's Edition. Fourth option down looked very intriguing to say the least:

Considering most PS3s nowadays do not have Playstation 2 backwards compatibility, would you be willing to pay more for a God of War III Collector's Edition if it came with the first two games on one Blu-ray? If not, what else from that list would you be willing to pay for?

Shin Megami Tensai: Persona 4 review

Shin Megami Tensai: Persona 4, the sequel to 2007's Persona 3 (and its FES re-release), is best described as a RPG/Social Sim. That may scare off a few of you new to the series, understandable. But don't write P4 off as a over clichéd hentai wankfest like a majority of “dating sims," as you'll be missing out on one of the best games to ever grace the PS2.

Story
P4 uses a unique, and very effective method to tell its story. There is a main plot which is played out in scenes triggered on certain days, or after certain events. Then there are the Social Links. You can use any free day you have (you have a lot of them) to talk to a friend, and spend the remainder of the day with this person. Every character (or Social Link) has 10 levels. Every few times you get together with a friend, the Social Link will advance, and you will get a cut scene. These normally are about half an hour each if you combine all of the 10 levels. You gather more friends as the game goes on, each with an interesting an unique story. This system works well for character development, breaking up the dungeon runs, and gives you a whole lot of incentive to keep playing. You'll always be in the middle of at least 3 stories, all of which you want to continue. Some of the Social Links are less interesting then others, yes, but as a majority, they're very well written, and very interesting.

Now that I've explained the Social Link system, and my love for it, I will move on to the main story. I can safely say that P4's storyline, which focuses on a string of strange murders, is by far the best story I've heard in a long time. For perspective, the game I beat prior to Persona 4 was Metal Gear Solid 3. P4 just had phenomenal character, in large part thanks to the Social Link system. Being able to see each characters struggles, thoughts, and life highlighted, watching them grow. That really gets you connected to the characters. You will care about the games inhabitants by the end of the game. On top of that, the murder mystery case had twist after turn, one after another. The story never drags on, never gets boring. The perfect blend of murder mystery and teenage drama, through both the main story, and Social Links, keep things fresh.

Then, adding another layer to an already astounding tale, the game is heavily based on mythology and history of differing origins. The themes are mature, the philosophies are deep, and the insight goes far beyond what most movies, let alone games, approach. I have never been pushed to think so deeply about how I live my life from any medium, game, book, or movie alike. After finishing the game I sat up most of the night, examining my thought process, the lies I force upon myself, the morals I hold, and my very idea of truth. This is what I want to see from stories. Instead of giving people a place to run from life, give us motivation to face it.

I'm not one to cry at any little thing, and I don't get riled up too easily either. Yet still, Persona 4 brought the man tears to the surface... multiple times. I'm not hesitant to say that, considering the brilliance of the games plot. If you don't at least tear up during the game, you are not human. Likewise, you will grow to absolutely loathe the villain. It's sad that so many games fail to make you truly dislike the bad guy, because it makes it oh so satisfying. The way the game reaches out to and connects with all parts of the emotional spectrum is very well done.

The last part of the story I'd like to touch on is the ending. I'm a firm believer that a ending can make or break a game, and P4 blew my expectations out of the goddamn water. Get all 3 endings. You owe it to yourself. They are all amazing, they are all touching, and they are worth the time. The most thought invoking conversations happen in the true ending, so please, don't skip out on it! I cannot say it enough. P4's story was amazing, is amazing, and will continue to be amazing. Graphics and gameplay will in most cases become outdated, but a good story lives on forever.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Persona 4 is very diverse for a JRPG. The social aspects in the game are interesting, fun to watch, and are packed with that wonderful story. While the dungeon portions do lead up to most big plot points, they are mostly straight up turn based goodness. The gameplay is most comparable to a mix between Final Fantasy and Pokemon. You have the basic attack, item, and guard options. Then your skills and persona options. Personas are “monsters” you collect and raise, they're where your skills come from. Each persona has a set of skill, weaknesses, and strengths. When you have a persona equipped, you share these attributes. You can raise your persona through training and learn new skills, or you can fuse a persona by mixing two, three, four, five, or six different personas to create a stronger one, which gains experience based on the level of your aforementioned Social Links. This is what connects the social aspect to the dungeon crawling portion of the game, and it works beautifully. There are at least 100 personas to collect, and its pretty damn addicting. I spent quite a bit of my time fusing my persona to try and get the best skill set possible.

The basic combat system is basic fair, turn based, rock-paper-scissors, type stuff. There are some twists, such as the personas, and the fact that physical skill take away from your own HP. Also noteworthy is the “one more” feature. If you hit a enemy with its weakness you get a second turn, knock down the entire enemy force and you get to do a team attack that normally kills off the enemy forces. I felt that really helped keep the battles fun. Always searching for the weakness, deciding if its worth the risk of trying a lightning attack that could kill the entire enemy force, or backlash and kill half your party.

You get a series of dungeons, each about 10 floors in length, to traverse with your personas and your party. Simple find the exit solutions for most of the dungeons, with a few exceptions. But don't peg this game as easy because of the simplicity of its dungeon design. P4 is the hardest RPG I have ever played. If you want to make it through with minimal grinding to see the story, get ready to swallow your pride and play on easy.

Graphics
The graphics are fairly simple, yet I loved the style of the game. The character models are detailed enough, but nothing spectacular really. The game as a whole had a solid frame-rate, besides one instance in the final battle. That lasts about 4 seconds and really didn't affect the game though. What the game lacks in polygons and lighting effects, it does make up for in style though. The game was bright, and was just pleasant to look at overall. I really enjoyed the character design, and I feel it was far better than Persona 3's.

Worth mentioning is the fact that occasionally, you'll see a small anime cut-scene. These look nice, and help convey the story with a little more detail. I wouldn't call the animation in these cut-scenes the most fluently animated, but they where nice regardless, and if anything, add to the experience rather then subtract from it.

Something I was really impressed with was the design of the personas and shadows. All of the 100 or so personas were modeled, with battle animations, and all were interesting and different; same goes for the enemies. All of them had a fun design that kept the battle scenery from being too repetitive. I just thought it was fun to see the artist's interpretation of mythological figures and creatures. There's a lot of creativity put into the designs for sure.

Basically, the graphics do what they're meant to do, and not much more. They give you characters to assign personalities to, they convey actions and emotions, and they look good. This is the type of game that focuses more on fusing gameplay with story. That's the reason the game works so well on the PS2 this late in the systems lifespan.

Sound
I loved the P4 soundtrack. Absolutely loved it. The game even comes with a bonus soundtrack CD, and I listen to it quite frequently. The upbeat tunes lend to the bright aesthetics of the game and really just complete the package. If you're not a fan of J-pop or J-rock, then you might be put off a little bit, but for the rest of you, you're in for a treat. This contends with the best of them in my humble opinion. I know music is a little more subject to mixed opinions, but I dare you to not find at least one track in this game you don't end up loving. They did such a wonderful job tying into the emotions being displayed in the game, it's a beautiful thing when when music comes together with the game so well.

On the topic of voice acting, I have good news for you, that I believe fans of P3 will appreciate greatly. It's all pretty damn good (No Fuuka!). All of the voice actors do a brilliant job giving life, and personality to their characters.

Final Thoughts
You may notice that the story portion of this review is a little longer then the rest. I did this one purpose, to convey the simple fact that if story isn't important to you, you're looking at the wrong game here. While the battles will take up a fair portion of time, it's all about the story in Persona 4. You could go over a hour without a single battle in P4. If that bothers you, I still recommend you try it out anyways. Playing this game is a experience I feel every gamer should have. Hell, most of the time I just rushed through the dungeons to get back to the social aspect. Consequently when the game finally ended, I was genuinely sad to see the characters go. After all that time spent building the Social Links with the characters left me attached to them. I'd decided long before the credits rolled to play through again soon.

Be warned, the game is long, it took me about 70 hours to complete. But this is a JRPG we're talking about. That should be expected. Just let me say, that those 70 hours where perhaps the best I've spent playing a video game. I feel like I've learned a lot about the world, myself, and I got to play an awesome game to boot. What more can you ask for?

Overall Score: 10/10

Yes, a 10/10 and the VFH Seal of Approval. Am I saying this game is perfect? Not by any means, no. But I give Persona 4 my highest possible recommendation, not because it will benefit me somehow, or because I have to. But because the game is a prime example of what more games should strive to be, smart, involving, and most of all, fun. I want people to take notice. Anyone who misses out on P4 is missing out on a masterpiece, and that's just a shame. As a reviewer, I'm here to share my experiences with games, and rate my time with them. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure this will be the best game you've ever played. But I sure as hell enjoyed the game, from start to finish it was just amazing. That was my experience, and if you happen to like the game anywhere near as much as I did, I think you'll agree with all that I've said.

Who says PSP gets no love?

Sure, we may not have the most PSP content here (blame no one having it, yet), but you also can't excuse the lack of attention it gets. From UMD hatred, few releases, and even weeks go by where Sony adds no PSP content to the Playstation Store. But apparently those days are over, because Sony is announcing PSP content like it's a system launch.

From SCEA's annual Destination Playstation conference it was announced that:

- There will be 2 new PSP bundles; Assassin's Creed bundle (Includes a Black PSP, new Assassin's Creed title, with more features TBA) and a Hanna Montana bundle (Includes a new Lilac PSP, Hannah Montana game, Hannah Montana TV series UMD, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and decals for the PSP) ... why?

- New PSP titles including LittlleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge (also on PS2, as to why, I don't know), and ... Petz (No thanks, Ubisoft); as well as Rock Band Unplugged, which will include its own store, and there's a bunch of EA Sports titles (but who cares?).

- Also the Warhawk Command Center will be launching on Playstation Home this week

Full press release at Playstation.Blog

Update: Thanks to an Atlus newsletter, I can also now say that Shin Megami Tensai: Persona will be coming to the PSP as well, releasing Fall 09 in North America

What PS2 is this?

Sorry to sound like a gaming dumb-dumb, but I have never seen this slim model Playstation 2 before. Here's two different slim models for you to compare:

Left: The mysterious new model. Right: The original w/ box.

I mean, it looks like the original slim model Playstation 2 that I have, but there's some irregularities. For instance, there's no shiny strip of plastic next to the disc tray, nor fans on the front next to the USB drive, and there was three plastic stripes on the edge, not just one.

See what I'm talking about though? I mean, I guess it's not a big deal since Sony's primary focus is now the PS3 (which not all models supprt PS2 games, by the way). But all I want to know is where was I when they made the case switch, and are their any other differences?

New Guitar Hero titles coming soon?

If Activision's Guitar Hero press site is to be believed, which I don't know why it wouldn't be, it seems that a new console Guitar Hero title is on the way, as is a new DS title.

I mean ... you can't get much more convincing than that. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the 'Coming Soon' for the console titles is the worst kept secret, Guitar Hero: Metallica. But as for the DS game ... I hope it's not another On Tour title, because those seemed to have been launched within months of each other; and with the GBA slot-less DSi coming, the "Guitar Grip" peripheral will soon be obsolete.

What do you think this means?

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories

Originally released as part of the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ in Japan last year, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories will becoming to North America this December as a stand alone title. Re: Chain of Memories is a 3D remake of the Game Boy Advance exclusive Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, of which, introduced a card battle system to the series.

I really enjoyed the original on Game By Advance for the most part. It was more so the visuals, because having PS2-like cut-scenes on a GBA screen, it was just awesome. I never fully dug the card system, but I got pretty adjusted to it. I have to say, I will probably end up buying this, just to complete my Kingdom Hearts catalog ... for now. Also, the game will feature the English voice talent, which is nice because the scenes in the GBA game were silent.

Re: Chain of Memories releases Dec. 2nd, 2008; at just $29.99.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories - Official Site

With Persona 4 and now Re: CoM releasing this December, it looks like a good time to be an RPG playing, PS2 owner. Or, if you one of the special folks to have a PS2 compatible Playstation 3, just hope both of those titles work well on your system.

Also we have a review of the GBA original over at Classic VFH. If there's any grammar or spelling issues, forgive me, I wrote that almost 4 years ago. Just wanted to point that out to any of those unfamiliar with the title.

Odin Sphere, Disgaea GH

The Atlus newsletter has confirmed that starting this September both Odin Sphere and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness will be greatest hits games and retail for the MSRP of $19.99. This is absolutely amazing news.

Both games are abundant in awesome. In fact studies show that one playing of either will give you 2000% of your yearly recommended dose of crazy amazingness. That is a scientific fact my good sir. Anyways, keep your eye out for these, really. Odin sphere is a gorgeous 2D action RPG unlike anything you've seen before, yet admittedly lacking in a few regards, and Disgaea is the deepest SRPG in existence.

Check out our review for Disgaea here.

You, Go Buy ICO

So, I finished my play through of ICO the other day. This is now by far my favorite game. Everything about the game was amazing. The imagery astounded me for such a old game, and the art style will give the game a fighting chance in visuals for many years to come. The puzzles where clever. This was the first time ever in a game where all the puzzles truly seemed logical to me. You always had all the tools you needed to continue, you just need to figure out how and where to use them. Their was even a big emphasis on platforming that was integrated into the puzzles, which is very welcomed.

One comment I would like to put out there, ICO reminded me very much of a point and click adventure game. The focus on puzzles, the camera angles, the pacing while faster, still at times seemed to be reminiscent of P&C games of the past. It was all just very P&C reminiscent. I was never a fan of point and clicks, but the beauty of the game along with the deep story and emotional connection you form with the characters in the game really made it stand out.

I cannot recommend this game enough. Go to your local game store and buy it used, find it on ebay, amazon, whatever, its not expensive, I'm confident you could find it for under 20$. This is something you need to experience if you consider yourself a gamer. So do yourself a favor and go pick it up.

On a side note, since JDW has already reviewed this game I will not be posting a review, but he felt the same way about the game as I did, giving it a perfect 5/5. I agree with his review 100%. So go give it a look.

God Hand Review

The review for Clover's PS2 game "God Hand" is up. Whats my opinion of it? Well, it's good. Go check out the review for more details at the classic site here.

God Hand Review

----------------------
UPDATE (3/22/10) VFH Classic is dead:

God Hand has the most varied opinion from critics and gamers that I have ever seen for a game. The scores range from the bottom to the top of the spectrum. I can understand why, the game is very different, even though it sticks to a familiar genre, the beat-em-up. God Hand really sticks out among Clover's games. The lacking art style and seemingly generic mechanics make it seem very odd when compared to Okami and Viewtiful Joe. So is God Hand really as big a flop as it seems?

Story: 7/10
As the “chosen one” with the god hand, you go around saving people. While traveling around you (Gene) and your female companion (Olivia) pass various towns in crappy situations, and the chick sends you off to deal with it. Thats the basic premise. It's not all that impressive, but the thing that really makes the story worthwhile is the humor. The game has an extremely odd sense of humor, that is very hit and miss. At the beginning Gene, the main character, for seemingly no logical reason says that his enemies are more sexy than Olivia.

Despite the occasional lame joke the game's story is pretty funny, and I laughed quite a few times. The plot may not be deep or meaningful, but it's fun and the game never takes itself seriously, which is pretty refreshing. Besides all that, this is possibly the only game in existence with an entire stage revolving around a poison chihuahua. Yeah, you heard me right.

Sound: 3/10
I'll be honest. 90% of the music in this game pretty much sucks. It's going for the cheesy feel, and it completely nails it, but it's just not something I want to have to during the entire game. The sound effects add a slight layer of ironic humor, but it's nothing but a small novelty. Pretty much to sum this up, the sound overall sucks. The voice acting is bad, the music is horrible, the sound effects are pretty average. The game just doesn't really have a lot to offer in this department. Besides the ending theme. That was pure win.

Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay is the one thing this game does right. It does it amazingly right. First of all I have to say, stick with this game. The first hour will not impress you, it's once you get past the learning curve that you'll really be having fun. After you know what your attacks do and what combination works in what situation, the game becomes immensely involving and surprisingly fun.

You'll have various specials at your dispense, such as super powerful roulette techniques, or the ability to unleash the god hand for extra fast punches. To me, these get in the way of the combat. The pure fun of the combat system made me really want to take out enemies the good ol' fashion way. The specials are best used on bosses, or when you get stuck.

The right stick is used for evasion techniques instead of camera control (the camera is in a third person over the shoulder view), and I wouldn't have it any other way. The stick evasion controls give you the ability to doge any direction in a second, and thats one of the most important aspects of the game. To help you control Gene there is a radar, and the r1 button makes you do a 180 to face the opposite direction, this works very well and during my play through the camera never got me killed. If you die it's your own fault, you have to monitor your radar and keep track of where your enemies are.

All of this adds to the fun and depth of the gameplay. Once all these features come together it really draws you in and keeps you there. You'll have to pull off the correct combos at the right time, break defenses within a few hits or dodge the retaliation in the blink of an eye. You have to know where to stand and what to do, and you'll have to do it with confidence. It's this level of accomplishment that really makes you feel like you're doing something, and that feeling, the involvement, the skill involved, it really makes this a visceral experience. It's something that should be experienced.

Graphics: 5/10
After playing Okami, Veiwtiful Joe, after seeing what clover can do, the graphics seriously disappoint. The environments are just plain ugly. The fact that so much is destructible really adds a lot, especially when you drop kick somebody through a wall. Thats awesome. But the textures are muddy, the levels are pretty barren and open, which accommodates the gameplay well, but it looks like crap. The only decent looking thing in the game is the character models, which have some pretty nice details. You're always moving anyways, so the graphics are no big distraction.

Conclusion: 8
God Hand is a very unique game, I guarantee that no matter what you think, you haven't played anything like it. The originality is the one part that really shows that it was made by Clover to me, and it's tenfold just to make up for the lack of everything else. The gameplay is just so involving, this is the first game to really draw me in this much since Kingdom Hearts 2. Not to say this is better or more fun than all of the games that I've played between now and then, it's just very good at making you forget everything else, making you focus, drawing you into the experience. Those of you who stick with this game will love it, no doubt. But those of you who stop short of “getting” it will miss out on a great experience and a good time.

8/10

New P4 Tidbits

Fresh from the NeoGAF forums user "duckroll" posted a P4 thread which will clear up most questions about the fourth entry in the series. First of all, apparently instead of entering the school to battle the shadows you enter your TV. That explains the whole TV theme...

"Another world within the television which consists of many different dungeons, the floors are randomly generated and the enemies are visible on the field so you can choose to avoid them if you want or head in and attack them to start a battle. it's in this tower place where you train your characters and gain new Personae to use in the Velvet Room. you can also split up your party so they can explore the whole floor faster."

Hmmm, all the details sound basically the same as P3, with a few tweaks, as I expected. Anyways, if you wanna check out the full post and get a further idea of the new features be my guest.

Persona 4 US Release

That's right, Persona 4 has a U.S. release date already! I had heard last night on NeoGAF, but now it's confirmed, December 9th 2008, on the PlayStation 2. As you might know, I am a giant Persona fan, so this is big news to me. A quote from Joystiq, "the publisher also notes that each copy of the game will come bundled with a soundtrack CD featuring "select music" from the title". It would be nice if it came with a artbook like p3 did for me, but oh well, doesn't look like that will be happening...

Here's the USA announcement trailer:

I'm very happy to see the same style, musically and graphically. I'm also to see that this game will seemingly include a bear type creature in a clown suite, which puts it up for GOTY in my book. But really, it's nice to see that the environments seem to be more varied this time around. There's still a ton I'm curious about though, like whats up with the TV theme? and what about those glasses? I'll keep you updated on any news, so keep an eye on VFH for future developments.

Rooooock!!! (Band 2)

Over at Kotaku there's rumors of the Rock Band 2 track list. While theirs not much in the way confirmation, it is mentioned that an IGN interview revealed that all the original Rock Band songs will be available for download on the sequel. This seems like a risky move to me. Why buy one if you can get everything with two? This might make fans a little upset, like they bought the first Rock Band for nothing. Personally the promise of so many songs is enough to warrant my forgiveness.

It's still left to be seen how Rock Band will fare with Guitar Heroes' adoption of the full band playing style. Will the enormous library of songs make up for the lack of a song creation feature? My bet is on no, sadly. As much as I love Rock Band and Harmonix, I don't think their talent is enough to compete with the brand recognition of guitar hero along with the create a song mode. Still, my plan is to get the Guitar Hero game with instruments, and the Rock Band game disk. It just seems like the way to go, and I've always liked Guitar Heroes guitars feel better anyways. I just hope that Rock Bands' sales are still decent, Harmonix deserves it.

PS2 Slim 2004-2008

In preparation for Metal Gear Solid 4's release tomorrow, I have finally boxed up my launch day PS2 Slim. It was quite possible the best PS2 I had because it never failed, unlike the previous 5 original PS2s that gradually fell under the Disc read Error spell (though the sixth one is still alive and in possession of my brother).

As write this, "Calling the Night" of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is playing... it's quite fitting :(

I knew ye well ol' buddy...

First trailer for Guitar Hero: World Tour

Here it is, the first teaser for Guitar Hero: World Tour

What can I gather from the trailer? Well, it looks like the Drum Controller is big... And I really doubt that big disc that has no effect other than be the silhouette of a base drum will be included in the final set. But the guitar, it looks to be a Sunburst color Gibson Longhorn.

(A real Gibson Longhorn)

Also, I wonder if this title has any relation to the DS game, Guitar Hero: On Tour?

Game Informer Details

The newest game informer magazine apparently has a load of details about upcoming games. This is big stuff, and I personally am excited for Banjo Kazooie. Sounds amazing.

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (360)
- You create vehicles with parts you find around the levels.
- RARE showed them a vehicle that was a monster truck that was able to detach its chasis to become a mini bike. When the bike ramped off a cliff it revealed collapsible glider wings and started flying.
- GI says that despite the large focus on vehicles it still features platform elements from the previous games like traditional platforming, tight rope walking and jiggy piece collecting.
- Showdown Town is 16 times larger than anything RARE has created before.

Guitar Hero 4 (PS3, 360, Wii, PS2)
- Drums, bass, vocals, guitar
- Create a song. Although these exclude vocals due to storage and possible copyright issues.
- You'll be able to name your song as well as creating album art. After you've done all that you can upload it to GH Tunes where anyone can download it.

More details on those two, the new Prince of Persia, Resident Evil 5, and Viva Pinata via the link below.

Okami art?

Okami has an amazing art style. It's just breathtaking, never before seen in a game. Even if you haven't played the game, I'm sure you can find it in yourself to appreciate the art.

Giant gallery, need I say more?
