Alice In Chains discuss Black Gives Way To Blue

It's short film documentaries on MySpace are new thing for grunge bands, as Pearl Jam had one last month. This time around however, Alice In Chains discuss their reformation and the making of their first album in fourteen years, Black Gives Way To Blue, following the passing of lead singer Layne Staley.

I can't explain the reasoning for the KISS make up though (I keep thinking of this)... otherwise the video is pretty insightful regarding the band's motivations for starting again and how new singer, William DuVall, got involved.

Black Gives Way To Blue releases later this month on September 29th.

Slow Poison

Usually when I make music posts, it's for bands like Pearl Jam, Oasis, Green Day, or other bands with an arguably long music history, and sizable fanbase (though that's not always the case). In case with the next band, it's somewhere in the middle... I think. Regardless, I know I like The Bravery, and I'm sure someone else out there does; so I was more then glad to hear the band's first single from their third album, Slow Poison, set for release this November 10th.

The titular track, "Slow Poison" can now be heard on the band's MySpace Music page (if that link doesn't work try this one). Personally, I really like it, it's a nice combination of their sound from their eponymous 2005 album and 2007's The Sun and The Moon, more so leaning towards the former, thankfully. Now we'll just to hear how the rest of the album sounds come this November.

Bad Lieutenant - "Sink Or Swim"

Yes, another music update! A few months back it was announced that the remaining members of the recently disbanded New Order (minus Peter Hook basically) would be forming a new band called Bad Lieutenant, with some help on the album from the likes of Blur's Alex James and Joy Division/New Order drummer Stephen Morris. The band would release their first album, Never Cry Another Tear, in October, with the first single, "Sink Or Swim" releasing in September.

Well it turns out there's been some changes, sort of. I was under the impression the both Alex James and Stephen Morris were part of the band, but thanks to a tweet from the band on Twitter, I've been informed that they (specifically James) appear on the album, but are not members of the band itself... which is kind of disappointing because I would have loved to see Alex James get the same non-Blur success that his bandmates Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon have had.

Also, you can now listen to a "MySpace Edit" of "Sink Or Swim" on, where else, Bad Lieutenant's MySpace right now. After a few listens, it sounds to me a lot like New Order's later albums Get Ready (2001) and Waiting For The Sirens Call (2005). Thankfully it's more in the realm of Get Ready, which I liked, cause I can't say the same for Waiting For The Sirens Call. But it's just one song, and from the tag I'll assume it's not even the full version. Regardless, this version of "Sink Or Swim" at least has me excited to hear what else the band has to offer, we'll see come September.

The Fixer

Can't help myself, but I'll probably be talking about this album up until it releases this September, and probably continue to talk about it afterwards.

Anyways, Pearl Jam's first single, "The Fixer", from their upcoming album, Backspacer, is now online. While it may not be available for purchase on many digital stores (yet), the band have just put the song on their MySpace for all to hear.

After listening to the track numerous times now, I can say that it still sounds like Pearl Jam, albeit a more upbeat version of the band. It's a mix between of 2006's self-titled album, and the stuff from 1998's Yield and 2000's Binaural. And considering Backspacer is the band's first album produced by Brendan O'Brien since Yield (O'Brien produced all of the band's albums from Vs. to Yield), I guess it makes sense for this sound to feel familiar.

All I know is that now with Backspacer releasing September 20th, Alice In Chain's Black Gives Way To Blue on the 29th, and now Superman/Batman: Public Enemies releasing on the same date, it's going to be an expensive September.

Dig Out Your Soul In the Streets

Back in September, Oasis was getting ready to promote their latest album Dig Out Your Soul. However while on tour in Toronto, guitarist Noel Gallagher was attacked on stage, thus halting the next show in New York City. To make up for it, Oasis set up a program for NYC street musicians to leak tracks live in the city. These tracks included: "Bag It Up", "The Turning", "The Shock of the Lightning", and "(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady".

Now, in January, it turns out an The Malloys filmed an eighteen minute, black and white, documentary of the event and its setup stages. And, it is now being released on MySpace as the first HD documentary released on MySpace Music; if that does anything for you. Full announcement here



This was another one of those things here in New York City I missed out on, but thankfully I now have this great documentary to see what I missed. Can't say I enjoyed all the performances here though, but quite a few of the street musicians' takes definitely rivaled Dig Out Your Soul's final versions. And if you're wondering why Noel Gallagher is absent in the video, then you should have read above; he was still recovering from his injuries after the attack.

Oasis' latest album Dig Out Your Soul, releasing in North America next week (yes, that soon!), can now be streamed on the band's MySpace page. From what I've heard so far, it's pretty good, and I especially love the first single, "The Shock of the Lightning".
