Filming starts on new Doctor Who

Good news out of the UK today, as filming has started for the Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith. The BBC release a bunch of articles and photos today regarding both Matt Smith's version of The Doctor as well as his companion, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.

As you can see, the signature look for the new Doctor has changed from the initial press shots, thankfully. I mean, what Matt Smith was revealed in wasn't bad looking, but it was just too boring for the usually eccentric Doctor. Seriously, who else is going to wear a elbow-padded tweed jacket, bow tie, rolled up pant-legs, and boots? The Doctor, that's who! ... or a hipster. Also, nice to see that Ms. Gillian there is rockin' David Tennant's old red Converse.. perhaps that's a point to be explained, but it probably isn't.

Regardless, it's nice to see that Matt Smith's Doctor will be fun-yet-serious like Tennant was, at least in his appearance; and not that dark and broody Doctor he looked like in the initial press shots. For more on the new Doctor and his companion, check out these articles released today by the BBC:

The new series of Doctor Who won't premiere in the UK until next year, and that's after the final two specials with current Doctor, David Tennant. So as to when the specials and new episodes will premiere here in America (whether it be on BBC America or SyFy), is still unknown. To say the least, I can hardly wait!
