The Eleventh Doctor is...

Wow, I can't believe I've yet to mention my infatuation with Doctor Who here. But now there's no better chance then now. After David Tennant's announcement in October that he would be giving up his role as the Doctor in 2010, the rumor mill started pumping out different ideas for who would become the Eleventh Doctor. Actors such as Paterson Joesph, David Morrissey, Shawn Pertwee, and James McAvoy were all rumored to be taking on the role of the Doctor.

Well, today the BBC decided to finally open up, announcing that Matt Smith will become the next Doctor. Yes, an actor not even rumored for the part; how's that work? Smith will be the youngest actor to portray the Doctor, at age 26. While he won't start filming Series 5 until the summer, the BBC has already provided some press shots of the Eleventh Doctor.

Remember that jacket and sweater (and maybe even that hair), it's going to be iconic a few years from now, trust me.

I'm personally a big fan of David Tennant's current role as the Tenth Doctor, so I'm pretty bummed to see him leaving in just a year. Hopefully Smith will be able to bring his own unique character to the series while still sticking to the familiar Who style. 2009 may have just started, but 2010 can't come any sooner.
