This Week in Lost - 4/29/09

Tonight marked Lost's 100th episode, and if it means anything our 806th post. But after a two week hiatus, and not to mention some so-so episodes recently, has the wait been worth it? Let's take a look!

Episode 14 - "The Variable"

JDW says: For Lost's 100th episode, we return to scenes in the present(?) after Ben shoots Desmond. But, we soon return to thirty years earlier, and we get some insight on my personal new favorite character, Daniel Faraday. We see segments with Daniel and his manipulative mother in the past, and we also re-see a scene from the season opener when Faraday is in the Orchid mine, not to mention much more after that... spoilers, to say the least.

Where to start? First off, that above summary isn't even half of what happens. Considering what we've been given the last few weeks, in terms of Dharma drama and lack of island exploration, it's not much different this time. However, what makes this episode so special is that instead of listening to Kate and Jack whine, we get to focus on more interesting characters. And from start to finish, this episode proves that Daniel Faraday is more important than we may ever have expected; next week can't come soon enough.
JDW's Score: 9.5/10

Zach says: This week's story focuses on Faraday, with why he came back to the island from before the week break. It turns out that while he was away from the island, he was still working with the Dharma team, but now has returned to try to change the past/future. Unfortunately, something happens at the end of the episode that doesn't give too much credence to his theory, but Jack still thinks it's possible. We will have to wait until the end of the season to see if those Einsteinian physics are correct or not, and if Jack and the gang can stop them from landing on the island in the first place.

Next week will be interesting, as the crew have almost completely let the cat out of the bag, with prisoners found and gunfire going down, so it'll be exciting to see what happens. I also want to know what's up with Faraday's mother ... she's an interesting character.
Zach's Score: 8/10

Overall Score: 9/10

Definitely looks to have been another good week, no? Let's hope the last few episodes of the season can raise the bar.
