So, the next step in digital distribution seems to be here. This fall EA will be releasing Burnout: Paradise on PSN for $29.99.
I'm one of the few against digital distribution of this type. For smaller games, I think it's amazing, I love the idea. But for a full game, I love having the box, seeing the art, looking through my selections at stores, especially if they have that one game, the one I've been looking for forever (coughnocturnecough) it just gives you a good feeling.
I know I'm on the losing side of the war, and it makes me pretty sad. If this goes big time and everyone releases their games for download it will be the end of bargain bins! I love bargin bins! All the awesome games that nobody bought end up there eventually. Along with the crap, yeah. But still, its awesome.
We'll tell you more as it develops, but for now details are vague. Keep an eye here during fall for the full scoop. Actually, just always keep an eye here, just in case. ; )

I agree, in that I don't like the idea of digital distribution. I'm sure prices would still go down eventually, and I doubt they will get too involved with it this generation, as storage is still a problem, but next generation, it's totally going to happen, and it's going to be lame.
I just don't like the idea of it. It would make renting harder I would think, but not technically.
It would make purchasing games easier, as numbers in a store wouldn't be important, because you can't run out of copies, so that's good. But you'll have to wait for long downloads...
And I just don't really like the idea of paying money for nothing. I pay $50-$60 and don't technically get anything, except for what's on my harddrive....I just don't trust it or something. I like having a physical box and manual and disc/game.
I see the benefits of digital distribution, but it's just a hurdle I'm going to have to get over.
Yeah. Well hopefully for at least the next gen we get an option of buying a disk or DD. I'm really going to miss midnight launches and walking in to a store to try the new demos and whatnot.
I mean, I had a great time on the launch day of smash bros, with the tournament and all. You could still have online tournaments and all, but that's really nowhere near the same.
Also, rare games will no longer be rare. Which is both a good and bad thing. : (
