This Week in ... FlashForward

Yes, as the clock strikes midnight here, I feel it's the right time to announce our next installment of This Week In, our weekly review feature for particular television programming. In order to hold off everyone till next year's This Week in Lost continuation, we will be starting This Week in FlashForward.

What is FlashForward?
FlashForward is one of ABC's newest prime-time television shows starting this Fall. The series is based on the novel Flashforward by Canadian science-fiction author, Robert J. Sawyer, in which the people of Earth black out for a moment in time, seeing their lives in the future. The show is being adapted by Brannon Braga (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise) and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight).

Must I know the book to know the series?
I'm going to say no on this one. In my research, I've found the show will differ slightly from the book. In the novel, everyone collapses for 1 minute and 43 seconds, but in the show it will be for 2 minutes and 17 seconds (Why the specifics? No clue.). Also, in the book people see the future 21 years from the present, the show will only reveal 6 months into the future.

Why is this the next This Week In installment?
Good question. To be honest, it only seemed fitting. While there are many other new and returning series this Fall, FlashForward seemed like the most interesting new show this season that would be available to all readers (as in, it's not on a cable or premium channel). Also, the show features actors such as Dominic Monaghan and Sonya Walger, known for their roles on Lost as Charlie Pace and Penny Widmore respectively. Not to mention, where as This Week in Adult Swim and Lost reviewed shows in the middle of their life-cycle, this gives everyone a truly fresh start.

When does FlashForward start?
FlashForward will premiere on ABC this Fall, specifically Thursday, September 24th at 8:00 PM EST. The actual This Week in FlashForward review should appear online that evening, and such will be the same for each Thursday following.
